The International Fiscal Association (IFA) congress
in the Congress Center Basel (CCB) at the beginning of September marked the start of an exceptionally intensive series of international events in Basel. Within the space of a week, the subject switched from finances to tropical medicine, with the 9th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH). Equally close on the heels of this congress came a meeting of experts of transfusion medicine and immunohaematology. Next on the agenda is a congress for biological safety experts – with all the different events following in quick succession. The highlight in terms of participant numbers is the annual meeting of the German, Austrian and Swiss Societies of Haematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO) as of 9 October, when Basel will be hosting more than 5000 delegates for five days.
Convincing bid book
Scientific events that go to different congress destinations all over the world are subject to an elaborate bidding process. The CCB accompanies the organisers and initiators
of these congresses over a period of many years – something which also requires close cooperation with the city of Basel. Through our increased commitment and the continual further development of our infrastructure, we were able to stage more than 50 international congresses and 45 national congresses with a total of 600,000 participants between 2010 and 2014. "About six years ago, we took the decision to focus on international congresses to a greater extent. Today, our intensive efforts are bearing fruit, and this is something we are proud of", says Letizia Elia, Head of Marketing & Business Development at the CCB.
