The figures that the Congress Center Basel (CCB) is able to report for the AMEE conference clearly illustrate its size: 3,800 participants, a plenary event with 3,000 guests, 35 sessions staged simultaneously and an accompanying exhibition on an area of 8,000 m2, featuring 83 exhibitors and 900 posters. The conference used the entire infrastructure of the CCB and the adjacent Swissôtel. The CCB's flexibility and technical capabilities were borne out – to the complete satisfaction of the organisers. Pat Liley and Nicola Williams from the AMEE communications agency PCO Worldspan were full of praise for the location, organisation and running of the conference. Particular mention was made of the excellent working relationship with CCB project manager Susanne Pfefferle. The technology deployed and also the room management during the congress were explicitly commended, as was the outstanding catering by Wassermann & Company – "Best catering ever!" was even to be heard at various points.
Equipped for major events
The Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) is a globally operating association which has members in more than 90 countries on all five continents. The organisation brings together professors, lecturers, researchers, members of government and public administrations and also ambitious young academics from the medical and healthcare disciplines. Every year, AMEE organises a conference in a European city. This year's conference was staged in Basel from 25 to 29 August. The meeting is regarded as the most important event in the sector worldwide.
The CCB Sales Team used this major event to stage side events, to which other associations were invited. In this way, they were able to see for themselves the dimensions and functionality of the infrastructure and technology.
Together with its partners, the CCB was able to demonstrate through the successful staging of the AMEE conference that Basel is suitably equipped for major congresses with more than 3000 participants.
