Two years from now, IAPCO will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. Hence midway through February 2019, international congress organisers will be gathering in the Congress Center Basel (CCB), for their anniversary congress. Alain Pittet, managing director of Congrex Switzerland, a member of IAPCO, states that "I feel proud that we have been selected to host the annual IAPCO congress in 2019. Along with our partner and sponsors, we will be presenting Basel and Switzerland to the world's leading professional conference organisers as the ideal destination for events". His company is in charge of organising the congress. It was at the last annual IAPCO congress in Dubai that Basel was chosen as the next venue. The convincing bid was presented on a joint basis, with the meticulous participation not only of the CCB and Congrex Switzerland but also the canton of Basel-Stadt, the Swiss Convention & Incentive Bureau, SCIB, Basel Tourism & Convention Bureau and the municipality of Montreux and Montreux Riviera.
"The Basel-Stadt cantonal government is delighted that IAPCO is going to hold its 50th general assembly and annual meeting in Basel in 2019 and congratulates all those involved", is how Christoph Brutschin, a member of the cantonal government, reacted to the news.
While Basel does not enjoy the same familiarity as metropolises like Paris, Vienna and Berlin, in an international comparison, this city on the Rhine does, however, have excellent infrastructure and satisfies all the parameters for successfully staging big congresses. That makes it an even greater joy for the CCB Team to be able to demonstrate what we are capable of doing before the very eyes of the world's most important PCOs. Staging this industry event gives the CCB – and indeed the entire city of Basel – the opportunity of carrying out the best possible advertising on behalf of Basel as a congress and trade-fair venue. Given that it is the anniversary event, the participants can expect numerous surprises, a top-quality educational programme and original networking opportunities with a typically Swiss touch.
